WILKES-BARRE -- Police caught a man who they said escaped their custody last month after he was arrested for attempting to strangle a 6 month old.

Derek Reich, 26, has been caught again after being on the run from Wilkes-Barre authorities for exactly two weeks.

On December 5, Reich was arrested for allegedly choking a 6-month-old girl at a home on Barney Street in Wilkes-Barre as well as attacking a woman when she tried to stop him.

When an officer went to put Reich into a police car, police say Reich somehow got away, despite being handcuffed.

Wilkes-Barre police say they received information Reich was at 66 North Fulton Street in the city and took him into custody on Monday afternoon after executing a search warrant.

A condemned sign was posted on the door, but there were people still inside. They declined to comment on Reich's arrest.

Police say when officers entered the Fulton Street house, Reich again tried to flee by going out a second-floor window but was caught by officers outside.

Reich was arraigned at police headquarters Monday night on numerous charges for the assault of the infant and the woman.

His bail was set at $400,000 and he was taken to the Luzerne County jail.

Reich is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on December 27.
