SCHUYLKILL HAVEN -- During the Christmas holiday season, for about 17 years, Wreaths Across America travels to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to place holiday wreaths on the graves of fallen service men and woman.

On the way there, the organization stops at memorial sites like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial site in Schuylkill Haven.

Local veterans in the borough partner with Wreaths Across America to put on a full ceremony, saluting those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

"It's our Christmas present to them. It's the last present we can give them since they are no longer with us," said Army veteran Guy Wiederhold.

For the past four years that this wreath ceremony has been held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial site in Schuylkill Haven it has been well attended.

However, it has never been held on such a cold day and there was some concern if as many people would show up.

So, some vets took to social media.

"I posted if you really care, be there," said Wiederhold.

More than 100 people attended the ceremony. Those who attended said the cold weather was, in fact, a cold reminder of true sacrifice.

"It's important to be here, because no matter what the weather was like, our guys and ladies fight for the freedom of our country," said Ruth Tucci of Schuylkill Haven.
