POCONO TOWNSHIP -- Snow fell Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, sending plow crews out on the roads. It's expected to switch over to a mix by Monday morning.

As the snow started to fall outside, plenty of people in the Poconos started stocking up in places like Steele's True Value Hardware in Tannersville.

"Oil for the snow blower and a new shovel for my grandson. This way he gets his exercise," said Bob Castaldo of Pocono Township.

Harold Dennis of Pocono Pines is ready for the snow. No shovels or salt for him, he came for a sled to enjoy with his 7-year-old child.

"Hopefully we get a lot more snow this year. I like snow. We live in the Poconos, you gotta get snow," Dennis said.

You can't say businesses weren't ready for the snow. Employees at Steele's True Value Hardware are still trying to sell salt from last year's mild winter.

"We're fully packed after last year. We didn't have a very good year, so this year has been starting off pretty good," said Steve Marchand, Steele's True Value Hardware.

Over in Jackson Township, firefighters are selling Christmas trees. They're ready for the snow, but they'd just rather stick to selling the trees.

"We like to be nice and quiet, nice and calm. Stay inside and stay warm" Ken Werkheiser, Jackson Township Vol. Fire Co.

You'll hear similar advice from PennDOT as they continue to monitor the roads from their headquarters in Dunmore.

"Make sure that you're driving for the conditions. Even if it's 45 mph, there's no need that you have to be driving 45. Just slow down," said James May, PennDOT. "And also, it's always important to make sure that your car is in good working condition and you have an emergency kit with you."

As PennDOT workers continue to treat and plow the roads, officials are warning drivers to be aware of the conditions out on the road as the snow continues to fall and the surface temperature hovers around freezing throughout the evening.
