MAHANOY TOWNSHIP -- The sky is gray, and it's been raining all day. That wet weather is actually a beautiful day to some in Schuylkill County.

"We are happy," said Christine Petrovich, owner of C&J Doghouse near Mahanoy City.

Petrovich was overjoyed when she saw rain out her window Tuesday morning. She is among many in the Mahanoy City area who have been dealing with a drought and forced to conserve water.

For weeks at her restaurant on West Centre Street, she has stopped washing dishes. Instead, the restaurant is using paper plates and serving bottle water.

A lack of rain caused creeks in Mahanoy Township, to disappear.

Mike Belding says the well on his farm ran dry about a month ago.

"We need the rain. It's a blessing! A lot of people don't like it when it rains, but we need it," said Belding.

There's good news for Belding. The forecast calls for more rain this week. At least one inch in total is expected.

Even with this rain, officials around the Mahanoy City area are warning people to still conserve water.

The water authority for the Mahanoy City area says it needs about four to five inches of rain to be out of the drought and be at normal water levels.
