TANNERSVILLE — It’s not your traditional Thanksgiving. Thousands of people flocked to resorts in Monroe County to enjoy their holiday.
Instead of sitting at a table eating turkey with family and friends, they spent Thursday at an indoor water park where the temperature always feels like summer. Folks came from all over to Camelback Resort.
“We don’t really have family her. We’re from France and we come here because it’s better than staying home eating turkey,” said Robin Maillard from New Jersey.
There were plenty of things for people to do at Camelback Resorts in Tannersville.
Indoor spas, poolside bars, and rock climbing, Camelback Resort wants to have something for the whole family to enjoy. There is even a buffet where they cooked about 60 turkeys to feed hungry guests.
“We try to provide just the right adventure for all our guests, whether it’s doing something on the mountains zip lining mountain coasters or our indoor water park,” Emilio Fabico, General Manager of Camelback Resort.
Inside the water park guests could practice hanging ten in the waves pretending they are at a beach getaway and forgetting about the cold temperatures outside.
The Nelson family lost their house in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy and ever since then decided to come to the resort as an escape.
“We are from New Jersey. We were underwater- there was a flood. This became our new Thanksgiving tradition,” said Gordon Nelson.
Camelback Resort said their already booking up for the Christmas holiday, so if you want a room you should start reserving them soon.
