LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- When it comes to getting a jump on Black Friday deals, die-hard bargain hunters weren't going to let a little rain ruin their shot at saving some cash.

Folks were lining up early on the rainy Thanksgiving Day waiting for Best Buy’s early opening.

“I just think that the great deals are wonderful, the TVs are going on sale for more than 60 percent off."

"30 to 60 percent off, there's wonderful deals here,” said Addi Singh from Clarks Summit.

“55-inch Samsung Ultra-HD,” said Jim Bridges from Jessup.

Other stores, such as Toys R Us, Dick's, and The Children’s Place also opened their doors early this Thanksgiving, offering an early grab at door busters.

“The hoverboard,” said Robin Belvedere from Dalton. “It's $100 off.”

“The Hatchable,” said Tracy Agee from Daleville. “Yeah, they're cute but they're nowhere to be found, they're nowhere to be found.”

After waiting outside for hours, then came the pay-off, as hundreds of shoppers were unleashed into stores.

“Because we have nine kids, we save a lot of money,” said Melanie Mahoney from Honesdale, who was shopping at Toys R Us. “It really is worth it, sometimes the lines, you want to not be in them, but it really is worth it.”

“I'm not looking for anything specific, I'm looking for everything,” said Amanda Slack from Scranton. “I'm a crazy mom shopper, three kids.”

“Saved about $800, plus my 10 percent off with being a card member,” said Alicia Polack from Madison Township.

Some retailers are opting to be closed on turkey day, including HH Gregg, TJ Max and Pier One.

Shaski Kalaroia from Clarks Summit came out to HH Gregg, only to realize he’s a day early.

“I thought they were open or something. I'm looking for a TV and I saw the ad in the paper but now I realize they're not open until tomorrow morning,” said Kalaroia.

Still he likes that the employees have the holiday off.

“That's nice, I hope everybody stays closed on Thanksgiving, it's better for everybody.”

For the stores that did open early, some are staying open through the end of Black Friday. Others are closing for a few hours, then reopening Black Friday morning, so check store hours before heading out.
