MAHONING TOWNSHIP -- Police in Carbon County are looking for the thieves who stole more than a dozen batteries from a dairy farm.

Officers tell us somebody stole more than a dozen new batteries out of tractors and trucks on the Troxell Farm near Lehighton.

The Troxell dairy farm near Lehighton has been around since the 1950s.

"We went to get into one truck and the batteries were gone. We were standing there looking at that one and then we looked over and another one they were gone too!" said Carlin Troxell.

In all, 15 batteries were stolen out of several tractors and trucks.

Troxell, whose family owns and works the land, says the thieves made sure to only rip out the newly installed batteries.

"You'd think you would just get one battery and you'd be happy. 15 of them, you know you are doing more than just taking care of one little need," Troxell said.

It's going to cost the owner of this farm at least $1,500 to replace the batteries stolen. In the meantime, it puts several of his pieces of equipment that he uses on a daily basis out of service.

For now, the farm workers have switched out batteries from other trucks to get their most essential equipment up and running as they purchase all the batteries needed to replace the stolen ones.

In the meantime, this farmer joked with us. Interestingly enough, this isn't the oddest thing stolen from his farm.

"Years ago, someone stole cows!" he laughed.

Although Troxell is able to find a laugh in his frustration, neighbors are seriously hoping the thieves who plundered his land, eventually pay for it.

"What goes around comes around," said Sandra Palinchiak. "You are not only hurting the farmers but you are hurting yourself in the end when they find out who did it."

Some of the workers at Troxell's farm said they have searched online sites to see if someone is trying to sell a bunch of batteries with no luck.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Mahoning Township police.
