DUPONT -- Two road closures in two heavily traveled areas in Luzerne County this week are causing delays and frustration for drivers.

The closures are in Dupont and Pittston.

Crews with Pennsylvania American Water are working to replace an old water main under the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad crossing on Main Street in Dupont. The project started Monday and is expected to last about two or three weeks.

Officials with Pennsylvania American Water say there should not be any service disruptions for the homes and businesses in the Dupont area.

Oak Street in Pittston Township is also closed.

"I don't know how I'm going to get home right now. I know I've got to turn around here," said Tim Somers.

So why are both projects happening the same time? Pennsylvania American Water says road projects take weeks of planning. They're not affiliated with the Pittston Township project and it's just a coincidence.

"We scheduled this in advance with the railroad," said project manager Jeremy Nelson. "There's a number of people and equipment and moving parts to take to get accomplished, it all fell together this week."

Oak Street near Pittston and Main Street in Dupont altogether see about 20,000 vehicles pass through every day.

Oak Street is expected to be closed for the rest of the week.

In Dupont, Main Street is planned to be closed for at least the next couple of weeks.
