WILKES-BARRE -- Taps ended the Veterans Day ceremony at Wilkes University. That's when one man became emotional.

Harold Cox was a command sergeant major in the Army. He's never been overseas. But plenty of his friends have, including some who never made the journey back home.

Hearing Taps makes him remember the time he's spent serving our nation.

“It always hits me right after I play it, how much it means to everyone who hears it,” said Cadet Captain Brian McKenna, a Wilkes University ROTC cadet.

He’s been playing Taps since he was a young boy.

“I've been playing for years, but every single time I play it is just as important as the last,” he said.

He's enrolled in Wilkes University's ROTC program. Eventually, he wants to go into the Air Force, inspired by his grandfather who served in Korea. He also thinks of his grandfather when he's playing Taps.

“I try to do the best I can because I know everyone else who serves does the best they can every day,” he added.

Cox said, “I can't describe it,” when he hears Taps play.  But he came to the ceremony to honor veterans like himself, wearing his old uniform that still fits after all these years.
