HAZLETON -- Donald Trump victory's in Luzerne County has some celebrating and others shocked, especially many in the heavily Hispanic community of Hazleton.

As results on Election Night slowly poured in, like millions of Americans, Fernando Puerie and his family were glued to their television. It became clear early on that the election was swinging Donald Trump's way.

"All of them were crying last night," Puerie said. "They were just screaming about the decision that happened in the country."

Puerie is an American citizen who came to this country from the Dominican Republic as a child. He's now a business owner in Hazleton but has friends and family still struggling to gain citizenship in America.

"People are scared right now because any decision that he makes can affect the Hispanic society."

Donald Trump as the elected president worries some Hispanic immigrant families because Trump made his stance on immigration clear during his campaign. He proposed a deportation task force.

The hardest part for Hispanic immigrants, even ones that are here legally like Puerie, are the president-elect's previous comments about Hispanics.

While many Hispanics in Hazleton fear a future with Donald Trump as the next president, the reality is some of the Hispanic population here also voted for him. Those voters are excited to see him in office.

Franklyn Nunez is also a Dominican business owner in Hazleton. A lot of his family doesn't agree with his support of Trump.

"I wanted change. I wanted something different," said Nunez. "We need something different. We give a try. If it don't work out, we have four years to vote for somebody different."

Hispanics in Hazleton who feared this decision are trying to take that advice and stay positive.

"We are scared about it, but I am hoping, nothing wrong, nothing bad happens."
