SCRANTON -- People in and around Scranton have been close allies of Hillary Clinton for years and some of her closest supporters are understandably saddened by the outcome of the race.

Clinton's family ties to Scranton have been front and center every time she made a campaign stop in the area. Many Democrats made close connections to her over the years and that's what makes losing this election so much harder.

After all was said and done, most, if not all, Hillary Clinton supporters imagined their candidate declaring victory, not conceding the race to Donald Trump.

In Scranton, Clinton-friendly territory, Lackawanna County Recorder of Deeds Evie Rafalko McNulty is coming to terms with the loss.

"It's a shock. People have spoken. That's what it is."

McNulty served as a delegate for Clinton at the Democratic National Convention. She says she broke down crying seeing Clinton concede. Now, her hope is that the political message changes when Donald Trump moves into the Oval Office.

"I felt there was hatred, bigotry, nastiness in the world," said McNulty. "I hope today it's all gone and was part of a campaign."

"We thought we were in a really good position going into last night," said Clinton supporter Paul McGloin.

McGloin is also feeling for the Democrat and former First Lady. The two are more than political allies, they're friends.

"It'll take a little while," McGloin said. "I got a card. I'm going to mail her a card."

Not everyone is feeling down this day after the election. Bob Bolus campaigned hard for Donald Trump, taking his trucks covered in decals all over battleground states to help the president-elect win.

"Feeling an exuberance I can't even put in words. I can't explain. It's over," said Bolus.

McNulty believes Clinton will be OK and hopes she spends the coming days with her family after such a tumultuous election.
