DUNMORE — Democrat Kevin Haggerty has claimed victory over his opponent Republican Ernest Lemoncelli as state representative for the 112th District.
Cheers filled Calabria Pizza in Dunmore as Haggerty came in to greet his supporters.
Haggerty, a Democrat, is reclaiming his seat as state representative for the 112th District. The district is entirely in Lackawanna County made up of six communities including Dunmore, Moscow, and several wards in Scranton.
During the primaries back in April, Haggerty beat incumbent Frank Farina.
Haggerty previously held the position from 2012 to 2014. Haggerty lost to Frank Farina in the Democratic primary for the redrawn 112th District in 2014.
During his speech, Haggerty thanked his family, his team, his supporters, and the voters.
Last week, Haggerty’s service in the Marine Corps became a campaign issue while he didn’t want to discuss those issues on this night. He did say it did not cast a black cloud over this election and pledged to get work done when he gets back to the state capitol.
“You know when I get back to Harrisburg, I want to serve on committees like Human Services, Veterans Affairs. Those are the things I want to do for my community. It’s amazing because people didn’t know the lack of money that we had and to pull off a victory both in the primary and tonight is just absolutely wonderful,” said Haggerty.
