NEWPORT TOWNSHIP -- There's a new tool to stop illegal dumping in part of Luzerne County.
Newport Township officials on Tuesday morning showed off a new ATV purchased with help from the Earth Conservancy and state grants.
Officials plan to use it to patrol areas plagued by dumping and vandalism.
"We'll be back here watching, we will be doing some patrols back here to make sure there is no illegal dumping going on, to see if we can deter it and stop it. No matter what, people are going to try any way they can, hopefully with this being out here we'll make them think twice about it," said Newport Township Police Chief Jeremy Blank.
Officials say other communities in the Nanticoke area will be able to use the ATV for similar patrols.
