Could Presidential Politics Lead to a Beer Boycott?

POTTSVILLE -- America's oldest brewery -- Yuengling in Pottsville -- is dealing with national backlash after showing support for Donald Trump.

Some are even boycotting Yuengling Beer.

The backlash stems from a visit earlier this week.

While stumping for votes for his father, Eric Trump visited the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville and was given a tour. At some point, the owner reportedly told Eric Trump, "our guys are behind your father; we need him."

Some Yuengling drinkers, shocked, are taking to social media.

Some bars in cities like Washington DC are now refusing to serve the beer.

"I guess if the bars want to pull it off their sales and lose the business, that is up to them but it is not going change anything," said Ron Shoop of Pottsville.

People near the brewery in Pottsville think a boycott on Yuengling beer is just silly.

Vern Martin of Shippensburg said the last thing people need during right now is less of it.

"I would think people are drinking a lot more due to this election," Martin said.

Whether or not Yuengling Brewery sees a hit in its beer sales remains to be seen.

Some are hoping either way that the owner doesn't back down from his support for Donald Trump.

"I think it is sad if he would chance his stance just for that, but he has to run a business, too. He has to figure out what is best for the business," said Lyle Wadel of Shippensburg.

We tried several tries to reach the owner of Yuengling for a comment. Eventually, we went to the brewery and were told by staff that no one there has a comment at this time.
