EAST STROUDSBURG -- With Election Day right around the corner, many are getting ready to make their voices heard.

In this new age of social media when every event seems to be posted, people will have to find a different way to show who they voted for. In Pennsylvania, counties have various guidelines on if you can take a selfie in a voting booth.

Election officials in Monroe County say electronic devices can't be used in the building.

"Now, of course, we have people there like watchers, they have to have them on silent or put them away unless they need to email someone, but no taking pictures in the polling place," said Sara May-Silfee, director of elections.

Officials say voter privacy is the election board's main concern.  They also do not want long lines to form at one of their polling places while a voter tries to get the right angle.

If a person is caught using a cell phone, election officials will get a judge of elections who will then get a constable to have them put their phone away.

While election officials can't control what goes on in the booth, they ask that you turn your phone off or put it in your pocket.

Newswatch 16 spoke with some soon-to-be first-time voters at East Stroudsburg University.

Students are excited to play a role in deciding the next president of the United States.

However, taking a selfie to remember the moment can wait.

"I don't even know why that would even go through your mind while voting, but to each their own, but that's definitely not the right time," said Jackie Tracey.

"It's a time for everything but voting you should take more seriously so the selfie thing, it's not really the time for that," said Chris Hegins.
