WEST PITTSTON — A laundromat in Luzerne County needs to clean more than just clothes after a driver somehow rammed through the entrance.
Security video shows a driver pulling into a parking spot outside of the Easy Clean Laundromat at Insalaco’s Shopping Center in West Pittston. But instead of going for the brakes, it seems the driver mistakenly hit the gas, slamming his pickup truck right into the laundromat’s front entrance.
Crews arrived shortly after to clean up the shattered glass store front.
“I just heard the glass shatter and pipes hitting the floor. I thought it was a delivery truck,” said Ashish Patel, the owner of The Smokesville said.
Patel’s shop is just a few doors down from the crash. He remembers just last month, a truck went through the entrance of the Wine and Spirits Shop, which is just next to the laundromat.
“I was like, ‘here we go again,’ because it was not even a month ago it happened,” he said. “I hope they put some pillars down or something because it’s definitely a safety hazard if you have something like that happen constantly.”
The property manager says other than those two incidents, a vehicle hasn’t gone into a store front in more than 30 years. Now, they’re considering installing barriers to protect the store fronts.
Police say there were no injuries, and that the driver likely won’t be cited for accidentally missing the brakes. There is no word on when the laundromat might reopen.
