OLD LYCOMING TOWNSHIP -- Nearly a half foot of rain swamped parts of central Pennsylvania overnight, inundating parts of Old Lycoming Township.

"We thought nothing was going to happen, then all of a sudden, a few minutes later, the whole road was covered in water," said resident Brent Getger.

Hundreds were surprised by the rush of water overflowing creeks, causing widespread flash flooding.

Many, like Brent Getger and his family, woke up to firefighters banging on their doors, telling them to head for higher ground.

"It was crazy because I was woken up by my sister. She said we have to evacuate, we have to get everything packed up," said Getger.

Some stayed in their homes, thinking it wouldn't be too bad.

"This person over here, directly across from me, they had a scuba team and boats searching for them to pull them out of their house," said Cody Isherwood.

Some people's back yards still looked like ponds hours after the flooding started.

"We have it marked where the water levels were and where it might end up being again," said Isherwood.

Near Cogan Station, people like Mark Smith are hoping the water levels do not rise again. His car business has been flooded out before, but this flash flooding wiped out his newly paved driveway and parking lot.

"This is the worst I've even seen," he said.
