HONESDALE -- This day last year, October 18, it was cold enough to snow in some parts of our area. But this year we've had record heat.
In northeast Pennsylvania, we typically see 82 degrees in July or August, not October. But in Honesdale, people got a dose of record-breaking heat on this balmy fall day.
“It’s crazy! Last week we were all wearing long sleeves, and today, it’s going to be 80 degrees. It’s ridiculous,” said Kyle Saylor of Honesdale.
This is a busy time of year for landscaping crews with all the falling leaves and preparing for the winter. However, Kyle Saylor is OK with this end of the extreme weather.
“Ideally 60s is nice. This is a lot better than if it was snowing and stuff. (This weather) keeps you outside and keeps you going,” he added.
Last year, it was snowing on North Main Street in Honesdale, making for a bizarre swing from cold one year to hot the next.
A couple from Long Island came to downtown Honesdale to see the fall foliage in all its glory. They never expected it would feel like the dog days of summer.
“I usually wear shorts into November, but not a t-shirt. Usually I have a turtleneck on. This is just freaky for a while. We’ll deal with it,” said Gary Servidio of Long Island, New York.
Golf courses and ice cream shops certainly benefited from this warm weather.
“We’re usually open this late in the season, but it’s usually a lot slower than it was this morning,” said Jenny Young, Gravity Ice Cream.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The Stormtracker 16 forecast has a big cooldown coming the end of the week--and maybe even some snow.
