LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP -- Nippenose Valley Elementary School in Lycoming County was forced to close back in 2013.

The building near Jersey Shore will officially reopen Thursday as a personal care home.

The building has been completely made over. Classrooms are now bedrooms.

Robert Miller, 84, gave us a tour around his new home.

It didn't take long for Miller to find his way around the hallways. That might be because he's been here before--a few decades ago.

“My one boy was in the first class that graduated here," he said.

From the outside, the building still looks like the former elementary school. Inside, Miller's made himself at home. He's the first resident to live at the Nippenose Valley Village.

The care home has enough space for more than 50 residents.

"We will be staffing with an administrator. We'll have full time nurses, CNA’s, med techs," said employee Virla Ocker.

It's a multi-million dollar project a group of locals decided to take on because they saw the need and wanted a place for their loved ones to move into when they get older.

"We have a place to retire and also our families, so if it's good enough for us, it's good enough for your mom and dad, too," said co-owner Troy Musser.

Not every room is complete. One empty room is still a few weeks from becoming a therapy room. They are planning to put in an outpatient care facility which can be used by anyone in the community.

The official ribbon cutting is at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The owners are taking applications for the new facility.
