LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Students at Marywood University gathered Thursday night for a concert put on by a Thai rock star, who also happens to be a Scranton Native.

Todd 'Tongdee' Lavelle left the Scranton area for Thailand 30 years ago to do research.

For over three decades, Lavelle used his music and writing to promote other cultures with the goal of inspiring others to tell their own stories.

Lavelle returned to Scranton four months ago  and has been working on a new project that brings a variety of cultures and sounds together.

"I feel like I own something to my hometown, so we created this album right here in Scranton. And in conjunction with the Thai navy and Thai government, we're doing a project called Thai world, and taking not only Thai music, but american music and brings it around the world and the first place is right here in Scranton," said Lavelle.

Lavelle plans to take his Thai world project around the globe and bring it back to the Scranton area during the city's first world music festival in June of 2017.
