Wilkes-Barre Officer Hurt in Cruiser Crash

WILKES-BARRE -- A city police officer was taken to the hospital after a crash Wednesday in Wilkes-Barre.

It happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of North River Street and Courtright Avenue.

The wheel of a police SUV is torn off, the passenger side is mangled, and an officer was sent to the hospital after an ugly crash on North River Street in Wilkes-Barre.

"All I heard was, 'bang' bang,' when I walked out the door, and it just scared me," said Sheila Davis.

People who saw the crash say the police cruiser was traveling down North River Street and the black SUV was coming from Courtright Avenue when they crashed at the intersection.

The cruiser then struck a pole. It's not clear who had the green light, but we do know the police SUV was new, on the road for just two months. Now, it may be totaled.

"Oh, my gosh, I hope he's OK. But I was glad he got out of the car and walked away. He limped away, i should say," said Davis.

Authorities said the police officer was not seriously hurt but was taken to a hospital.

Wilkes-Barre police are handling the investigation.

I’m sorry but what about the person in the SUV? Was he/she hurt or taken to hospital? Maybe the other persons car was new too, only on the road for 2 months as well and also may be totaled. What about the full story? Why only report half of the story?flipping confused

I could not agree more. How could you call this a report when you go into the detail of how long this cruiser was on the road, yet not report the well being of the other person in the SUV! Could not show any more bias in this report

We saw both of these cars flying down WB Blvd before this crash. They dont care who they almost hit or in this case hit. They almost took out my family one time flying, they dont care.
