SCRANTON -- Volunteers spread out in downtown Scranton to do a little sprucing up on Wednesday.

We found people planting some mums, pulling weeds, and sweeping trash on Courthouse Square.

Lowe’s donated $4,000 in supplies to sponsor the effort.

There were others removing graffiti downtown all to make Scranton look a little cleaner heading into fall.

Bravo to these good hearted volunteers for their love of community and willingness to make a difference. But why should they have to even touch, of all places Courthouse Square, the pinnacle and centerpoint of downtown Scranton? Where is DPW? And why would DPW not have kept this critical area is prime condition??
