An event aimed at encouraging more women to get into politics in our area launches this weekend in Lackawanna County. It all takes place Saturday at the University of Scranton. The event is called "Wanted: More Women Candidates." It's affiliated with Ready to Run Northeast Pennsylvania. The group puts on different workshops with hopes to inspire more women to get into the political field. Newswatch 16's Ryan Leckey got a preview of it on Tuesday.

Organizers stress that Saturday's event is a nonpartisan workshop and not a rally for a specific candidate. "Ready For Run" provides tips on everything from presenting yourself as a credible/viable candidate to financing your campaign.

QUICK FACTS:

What: "Wanted: More Women Candidates"
Where: Brennan Hall, University of Scranton
When: Saturday, October 8
Time:a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $15.00 for area students. $50.00 dollars for non-students. (The event includes breakfast, lunch and a binder full of materials which features everything you need to know to run for office.) Scholarships are also available to those who can't afford the workshop.

Pre-registration is preferred!
