SCRANTON -- If you still haven't registered to vote in the upcoming presidential election, time is running out.
The last day to sign up to vote in Pennsylvania is Tuesday, October 11 and during this last week, Republicans and Democrats are pushing to sign up first-time voters.
According to the Lackawanna County Board of Elections, a large number of first-time voters are signing up.
“I didn't want to vote. I wanted to go on Ripley's, being a 105 without voting. I figured I'll vote this year,” said Albert Ventura of Scranton.
Ventura, who is not 105 years old but 93 years young, has just registered to vote for the first time. He said he wants the chance to vote for Donald Trump, the Republican nominee.
“I think Trump’s going to do good things,” said Ventura. “It's going to be a little better than what it is, to tell you the truth. And what he's talking about, we're fighting all these wars and nobody wants to fight with us you know?”
Volunteers were busy working the phone bank at the Scranton headquarters for Trump's opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Other volunteers were out and about in the city, getting first-time voters registered.
“The staff here is going to emphasize volunteers going door to door and I think even I'll get out to do that,” said volunteer Barbara Monick.
According to the Lackawanna County Board of Elections, at the primary election, there were more than 142,669 people registered to vote in the county. Now, there are more than 146,201.
At the University of Scranton, student volunteers have been having registration drives to recruit first-time voters.
“Lot of times they don't have a political belief at the time. That's fine. Just check the Independent box and that allows them to vote wherever they want,” said senior Carson Clabeaux.
