HARRISBURG — The United States Middle District of Pennsylvania has a new U.S. attorney.

Bruce D. Brandler will take over the position previously held by Peter Smith.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch appointed Brandler to replace Smith, who retired October 1.

Brandler was appointed an assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District in 1986. In 2014, he became the chief of the Criminal Division.

Brandler’s appointment is for 120 days or until a Presidential appointment is made, whichever comes first.
