DUPONT — Drivers are warned of lane closures that may cause traffic issues on Interstate 81 in Luzerne County.
Crews are continuing their work to remove the Wyoming Avenue bridge that passed over Interstate 81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
PennDOT said beginning on Sunday, October 2, there will be lane closures on Interstate 81 in both directions between Exit 175 (Dupont/Pittston) and Exit 178 (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport/Avoca). The lane closures will be from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The work is scheduled to last until Friday, October 21. In addition, there will be rolling roadblocks at night between October 3 and October 5 as crews prepare to dismantle the bridge
During the week of October 17, PennDOT said there will be additional rolling road blocks and stoppages through the night on Interstate 81 as crews remove the beams.
The part of the bridge over the turnpike has already been removed.
Once removed, the bridge will not be replaced.
