HONESDALE -- Troopers were called to Main Street in Honesdale early Saturday morning after a woman found a toddler alone in a vehicle outside a bar.

Police have not released the names of the toddler’s parents, but the woman who found the little boy said after she heard the mother and father arguing behind the bar, she found their son out front, alone in the vehicle.

“At one point he (the father) said that the baby was in the car so instantly I walked around to the front of the building on Main Street and there was a car and I could hear the baby crying.”

The woman who found the boy asked to be identified only as Megan.

“He wasn't old enough to speak. He was old enough just to walk. He had no shoes.”

Megan explained that when she picked up the child, he was wet, so someone grabbed a bar towel to use as a diaper.

“He had no socks, soaking wet diaper, crying. The state police showed up. They were there about three hours.”

The Wayne County district attorney confirms that along with state police, social workers are also on the case, adding no arrests have been made and the little boy is staying with a relative.

“They were both heavily intoxicated,” Megan said.

Megan says when the boy's grandmother arrived to pick him up, she thanked Megan for stepping in.

“You need to put your kids first, above anything.”

The bar owners said they called police right away after finding out the child was found alone, adding "we're thankful for people who say something when they see something."
