Pennsylvania mayor pushed to resign after racist Facebook posts

WEST YORK, Pa. -- The mayor a small Pennsylvania borough is being pushed to resign by other municipal officials following racist Facebook pictures West York Mayor Charles Wasko apparently posted over the summer, including ones aimed at the first family.

The calls for resignation come after a Facebook page apparently belonging to Wasko posted in June a picture of a monkey, saying it's a picture of Michelle Obama and a wagon of orangutans captioned "moving day at the White House."

However, that's not the only offensive content the Facebook page has posted, or even the most recent. He has various posts calling Obama and Hillary the leaders of ISIS, Hillary behind bars, and various others. One of the more overt posts was a picture of Clint Eastwood holding a noose with the text "Barry this rope is for you. Wanna bring that empty chair over here!"

CNN has reached out to the mayor's office for comment and has not yet gotten a response. When the York Daily Record reportedly reached Wasko on Thursday, he described the response to his posts as "bulls---" and hung up on the reporter.

The position of mayor in West York -- which according to a U.S. census estimate has about 4,500 people in it -- is unpaid and Wasko cannot be removed legislatively.

West York Council President Shawn Mauck told CNN on Thursday that Wasko's "actions have been absolutely deplorable," and said he does not have the power to remove Wasko from his position but "the community itself and colleagues have reached out to him and asked for his resignation." Mauck has not been able to get in touch with Wasko.

Mauck told Fox43 the posts were brought to the council's attention recently.

"It's surprising to me," he said. "I hope this changes his ways. I hope he apologizes for it, at the very least, he owes the public an apology."

"In no shape or form will we allow this to affect any governing policy, whether it's the police department or any other department of the borough," Mauck said.

Mauck said the council plans to address this issue Monday through a censure vote to "censure him and formally distance our government from those actions," and he said he has no doubts that the vote will be unanimous.

Mauch also is circulating a petition to push the mayor resign, which as of Thursday evening had more than 130 signatures on it.

Mauck says that the posts are a result of the "age of (Donald) Trump that has made anything possible" and that "it's time that we start pushing back and say no to this kind of rhetoric."

OH FOR HEAVENS SAKE!! GROW UP PEOPLE!! Take a Freaking Joke Already!!
Are his Facebook Posts effecting your life in any way, shape or form?? NO!!
If the people in which were named in the Posts had a problem with it, they would in fact be the ones to make the stink.
This is what happens when people don’t MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS!!

Are these Facebook Posts effecting the way he is doing his job?? Probably Not!!
Unless these Facebook posts start effecting his job performance and decision making as a Mayor, then Leave it BE!!

It is ok for the progressive liberal media, actors, comedians and politicians to mock and make fun of conservative’s but they do not like it when the shoe is on the other foot.

I can’t comment on this because I haven’t actually seen the Facebook page, and I can’t verify that it is the mayor’s in question. What I CAN say is that I read this news article and have read the accusations made by the various participants in the article. Having said that, I will talk more about it on my show on Monday, but can’t really say too much about something I can’t verify as true or untrue.

      1. Disagreeing with you isn’t “bashing”, although I know a very childish element of this country is unaware of this.

      2. There’s a gaping chasm between making fun of someone and using known historical racial epithets.

It’s his choice to post what he wants weather people like it or they cry about it. I don’t see any reason why he should have to leave. This world is full of a bunch of cry babies. Not everyone likes our crappy president or the joke Hillary.

Racist I don’t see it all I do see anymore are a bunch of Indians living better than most Americans. Most Americans busting there butts to make a living and foreigners getting everything handed to them. This world is a joke anymore half the people over here can barely speak English.
