Volunteer Firefighter Killed in Crash on Interstate in Lackawanna County

DUNMORE -- A man killed in a crash along Interstate 81 in Lackawanna County was a volunteer firefighter.

It happened on the ramp from Interstate 84 to Interstate 81 north around 7:30 p.m Saturday.

According to state police, David Tobin, 24, of Jefferson Township died after the car he was in hit a concrete barrier and rolled over. The driver, Cody Kizer, 24, of Lake Ariel was hurt. Neither was wearing a seatbelt. There’s no word on Kizer's condition.

State police are still investigating what led to the crash.

The ramps from the Casey Highway and Interstate 84 to Interstate 81 north were blocked off for a time. They have since reopened.

Black bunting hung at the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Company on Sunday for Tobin.
