BLOOMSBURG -- When it rains, some aspects of the Bloomsburg Fair seem to dry up. While people still come to the fair to walk around and eat food, not as many people play games or go on rides. Although kids enjoyed some of the rides, others were closed because of the wet weather. Business was also slow for some of the games, including one called "The Shark Pond."

Although kids enjoyed some of the rides, others were closed because of the wet weather. Business was also slow for some of the games, including one called "The Shark Pond."

"It's dead, it's like nobody over here and I don't get much of anything," Tiffany Walter said.

Even though people are at the fair, attendance numbers aren't as high as they were earlier in the week. Last year's attendance for Thursday was just over 41,000 people. This year it was almost 22,000, so the rain made a big difference.

"It's a little rough today," Jane Pennington said.

Pennington runs one of the Sunset Ice Cream stands at the fair. Business has been slow, but she and most other vendors aren't considering leaving the fair early. Pennington says since it's the end of fair season, most vendors don't have anywhere else to be, and they already paid for their spots.

"And they're trying to get rid of their product. If they bought product they're trying to sell. If they bought eggs, hamburger and I have ice cream. So you kind of have the stuff here," Pennington said.

Some vendors are doing well in the rain. The ones who sell the umbrellas, ponchos, and waterproof hats.

"It's good for us. It's not great but it's okay. People know that our hats are water-repellent you can wear them out in the rain," Mike Welsh said.

Umbrellas and ponchos came in handy. Mike Welsh and some other vendors come prepared to sell these items each year.

"Typical Bloomsburg. Bloomsburg is always warm the beginning of the week and then at the end of the fair it's always cold and wet," Welsh said.

This year's Bloomsburg Fair wraps up Saturday. The vendors we spoke with believe it will be busy even if it rains because it will be everyone's last chance to get their fix of fair food.
