MUNCY TOWNSHIP --- September is blood cancer awareness month, but a group from Lycoming County plans on raising money for the cause come October first.

Some moments like the day Jessica McDermott and her husband opened their business in Old Lycoming Township are worth framing.

"That was the scariest day of my life probably cause it was like a line out the door when we opened," said Jessica McDermott

She didn't know it at the time, but about a year later her life would change drastically.

"I found a lump on my collar bone," said McDermott

In October of 2013 Jessica was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It’s a blood cancer.

“At 24 it's not something that is in the back of your head at all even owning you're own business at 24 is crazy enough and then a new born almost and a toddler running around it's the last thing on her mind," said McDermott.

3 years later Jessica is in remission, but like many others. She's fighting to find a cure.

Hundreds of other people are also hoping to raise awareness and money for leukemia and lymphoma society, it's why they are holding and event this weekend here at the Bush house near Muncy.

"There are several friends of mine that are survivors who are around because of the work the leukemia and lymphoma society has done," said Frick.

Ron Frick started running marathons and raising money for leukemia and lymphoma back in 2013.

He's volunteering at the first ever Wine and Hope event where all the proceeds will be donated to the leukemia and lymphoma society.

"It's really just a wine tasting event there are some vendors are going to participate," said Frick.

"I don't think there is anything that you can offer someone fighting cancer than just being there in support and that's what the leukemia and lymphoma society offers. They offer support," said McDermott.
