JIM THORPE -- A man is charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy in Jim Thorpe over the past six months, and police are calling it one of the worst cases of sexual assault on a child they have investigated.
Police in Jim Thorpe arrested Kevin Gowrie, 42, on Wednesday.
He faces nearly 80 counts, with charges including felony rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and aggravated indecent assault of a child.
Police learned of the rape through ChildLine after the boy told someone who is obligated to report it.
ChildLine is a child abuse hotline. It provides information, counseling, and referral services to ensure the safety and well-being of children in Pennsylvania.
Investigators said Gowrie threatened the boy that he would kill him if he told anyone.
According to court documents, Gowrie sexually assaulted the boy several times while Gowrie’s own children and wife were in his home.
Police believe Gowrie has other victims and they hope they will come forward.
Gowrie is locked up in the Carbon County jail on $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for October 12.
