MIFFLINBURG -- It's not just a place to break a sweat, as Adrienne Breed's feet hit a treadmill at the Mifflinburg YMCA she sees it as sanity.

Breed has been working out in the building for years when it was still  home to a 24 hour gym.

On Friday The Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA, Union County branch in Miffinlinburg officially opened to the community.

"I think most Y's are very community oriented, which a lot of gym's aren't, so that makes a big difference," said Breed of the opening.

For about seven years the Y held programs for kids and seniors at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mifflinburg. It wasn't until they moved into the new building that they felt they could finally serve the entire community.

"In this facility we have been able to bring in all of our kids programs and our seniors in the morning, our kids after school," said Angela Haines, Director at the Greater Susquehanna YMCA.

"There's still- you know you have your weightlifters but what's really nice. Well what I think is nice is there's older individuals coming in because they have this silver sneaker program," Breed commented.

Betty Motter and her husband Truman joined the Y 4 years ago to stay in shape. They stayed because this place and these people have become like family.

"I just think there is a lot more people that need to take advantage of this kind of thing, you know? I know it's new, but they just ought to do it," said Truman.

Since the Y's move to the new facility, the couple says their morning workout class has been filling up.
