CLARKS SUMMIT — A section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension will close for five hours Sunday, shutting off traffic in both directions.  It will happen in the early morning hours.

The Turnpike Commission says the closure is so a bridge can be removed. That bridge carrying Wyoming Avenue over the turnpike near Pittston is being eliminated.

The closure will be between the Wyoming Valley Interchange, Exit 115, in Luzerne County, and the Clarks Summit Interchange, Exit 131, in Lackawanna County.

The total closure of the turnpike will run from midnight Sunday morning until 5 a.m.  There will be lane restrictions surrounding that closure.

On Saturday, the northbound right lane will close at 1 p.m. and the southbound right lane will close at 2 p.m. for workers to begin preparing for the work on the project Sunday morning. These single-lane patterns will remain in effect until 9 a.m. on Sunday.
