SCRANTON -- In Scranton on Thursday, more than 200 people took to the streets, running and walking in solidarity for a local man with stage 4 lung cancer.

That man, Pat Sweeney, set up a special stand to give his thanks.

The streets of Scranton were packed with runners and walkers.

Run Around Scranton is a fun monthly event, but this run was an extra special one for a local man many know and love.

Sweeney is a longtime, well-known bartender in the Electric City.

"A lot of people can bash Scranton, but at the end of the day, you see things like this in the community, and it's overwhelming. It's inspiring and we're very, very blessed," said Sweeney's daughter Kelly.

Sweeney, who never smoked a day in his life, has stage 4 lung cancer. In a sign of solidarity, people who know him and people who don't, donated money and ran for him.

"Why not? Because he's the best bartender in all of Scranton and why wouldn't we? Pat's a good guy," said Matt, one of the runners.

Sweeney, touched by the kindness, set up a stand outside his home for the runners with water and more.

"It's been overwhelming, the support we had, just a little payback. It's been unbelievable, I'm overwhelmed," added Pat.

Sweeney and his family say they are going to battle cancer on day at a time.
