WEST PITTSTON -- Police in West Pittston say two women are suspected of stealing a purse from 82-year-old Pat Gayoski after she gave them a ride from Gerrity's supermarket on Wyoming Avenue.

“She talked to me, the lady, and she said, 'Oh I have to walk all the way to Eighth Street.’ And me, like a Good Samaritan, I said, ‘Come on, I'll run you down there,’ Gayoski said.

Gayoski tells us she drove the two women with all their groceries a few miles away to Eighth Street in Wyoming. When the women exited the car, she noticed her purse was gone along with all her money and valuables.

“I'm really shook up. I'm going to be 83 on Sunday and this really shook me up,” she added.

West Pittston police found the women on the store's surveillance video.

They say the groceries they carried out with them were purchased using a free food voucher from an area church.

For Pat Gayoski, a woman living on a fixed income, the theft leaves her with no money and little regard for the people she tried to help.

“She said to me, ‘I'm going to pray for you tonight to God,’ and I thought, ‘Oh yeah, you better pray for yourself.”

Gayoski says she was never threatened by the women.

Police in West Pittston are checking into the church that issued the free food vouchers to the women.
