LOCK HAVEN -- If you need to park on East Main Street in Lock Haven, don't forget your change purse.

If you have a dime, you can put it in one of the meters on a side street and park for an hour. It's a better price than parking on the main street and the people who work downtown know it.

Because it is cheaper to park on the side streets, it's harder for some of Jarrod Watts’ customers to find a spot in front of The Saloon.

"Depending on the day, depending on what's going on, the side streets they can fill up sometimes,” said Watts.

“So if you were coming and you were a long term parker which is someone you want to attract to a lot, it costs more to park in a lot than it does to park on the street long term,” said Gregory Wilson, assistant city manager of Lock Haven.

Wilson has heard complaints from drivers and businesses about parking in the downtown. It’s why the city put together a report to find a solution to their parking problem.

"Probably the biggest outcome will be a look at more consistency, one rate for on-street, another for off-street, to encourage people to use off-street lots for longer term parking," said Wilson.

It means instead of a dime, you might have to pay a quarter at all of the spots in the city.

"I think it would open up a little more spots. People would just park wherever with no real preference just trying to get to where they need to be," said Watts.

"It's a quarter, so I don't think it's that bad of an up,” said Santina Newlen.

City council is still discussing the plan, which could go into effect as early as November.
