SCRANTON -- A fresh burst of autumn color bloomed in downtown Scranton on Sunday.

The Penn State Master Gardeners along with the group Scranton Tomorrow were near Courthouse Square planting mums.

With gloves and tools, about 50 kids cleaned out planters, removed weeds, and planted the fall favorites.

Organizers say it was great for youth to take part in keeping the future of Scranton intact.

"People need to invest some of their time and energy into making downtown Scranton a better place," said Steve Ward, Penn State Master Gardeners.

This was the fourth year the group has planted the mums in downtown Scranton.
