LYCOMING COUNTY -- Severe thunderstorms blew through central Pennsylvania Sunday afternoon, knocking down trees and leaving behind a mess for people to clean up.

The heavy winds toppled trees and power lines, closing roads and knocking out electricity to thousands in the Muncy area.

The damage is so bad that the Muncy School District cancelled classes for Monday.

Lycoming County officials said storm damage was reported from the Elimsport area through Montgomery and into Muncy.

One man who lives in the Clarkstown area said it sounded like a freight train coming through.

The Muncy borough manager said the storm cleanup will begin Monday morning once they have daylight. Road closures are being enforced and the borough is asking all residents to remain in their homes. If anyone must go out, the borough says to pay attention to the enforced road closures as there are many downed power lines which may be live. PPL is currently out working to restore power.
