WILKES-BARRE -- Items were auctioned off in Wilkes-Barre on Sunday all to benefit the police department’s K-9 unit.

The proceeds from the auction at Genetti's Hotel and Convention Center on East Market Street will help cover the costs of the Wilkes-Barre Police Department's new four legged officers.

The two K-9s are from Slovakia and cost $15,000 each.

Each pup will be paired with a human officer.

The department anticipates one of the K-9 teams will be on the job by the end of the week.
