VALLEY TOWNSHIP -- While driving along Route 54 near Danville, it's hard to miss the bright sign.

But what is "Iron Mill Church"?

Its denomination is Christian Missionary Alliance, which means members want to tell as many people as possible about Jesus.

Pastor David Dixon says bringing this church to the Danville area has been in the works since early this year.

"We've had a lot of wonderful support from other local churches in our denomination and even outside to help get us started," Dixon said.

The church was built in the 1930s and formerly housed two other congregations. But what about the name Iron Mill Church? Dixon says the name is meant to match Danville's heritage.

"We wanted them to be able to come in and be themselves and get a chance to learn from the bible. That's what we're hoping a name like that will be able to do," Dixon said.

Dixon wanted to create a casual atmosphere where people can feel comfortable coming to church, so he doesn't want people to call him pastor. He just wants to be called David.

"Typically when I'm preaching on a Sunday morning, I'm just wearing jeans and I'll probably wear a polo. That's pretty much it. People come in shorts," Dixon said.

"I think it would certainly take down a lot of barriers that might prevent people from experiencing that spirituality," Josh Klina said.

Klina goes to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Danville but plans to attend a service at Iron Mill Church to see what it's like.

"Churches are pretty much fixed, so to have a new one pop open at a time where religion is kind of at a downturn is very interesting. It might be a great way for people to get in touch with spirituality," Klina said.

The church already has around 40 members and a children's program called "Iron Mill Kids." The first service is this Sunday at 10 a.m. The church is located just off Route 54 near Danville.
