SCRANTON -- Police in Scranton are on the lookout for a man who tried to rob a woman Wednesday morning inside the parking garage at The Marketplace at Steamtown.
Police say it all happened inside the parking garage on Lackawanna Avenue a little before 9 a.m. A woman was getting out of her car when a man came up behind her and tried to use a stun gun to steal her purse.
We're told by police the woman was able to fend off the attempted robber before the man quickly fled the scene.
The woman was not hurt.
These kinds of attempted armed robberies not uncommon in most cities, but police admit it's a little unusual that a stun gun was used.
This is only the second time this month they've encountered such a situation. Police do not believe the two are connected.
Officers want to remind everyone how important it is to be aware of your surroundings when you're getting in and out of your car.
"When you're walking down the street staring at your phone, you are distracted, you're not paying attention to what's going on around you," said Scranton Police Capt. Dennis Lukasewicz. "When you pull into a parking garage or something like that, take a second or two and stop and see what's around you, see what kind of people are around you before you start approaching anything you're looking to do that day."
