LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP -- While some businesses are closing their doors, it seems like more and more stores, banks, and restaurants are opening in one part of Lycoming County.

Construction continues on a car wash on East Third Street -- better known as The Golden Strip -- in Loyalsock Township. It seems the community near Williamsport is the place to go for shopping, eating, and banking.

The three-mile stretch of roadway is filled with stores, hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and banks.

Besides the car wash, Buffalo Wild Wings, Five Guys, Qudoba, Moe's, and other stores and restaurants were recently built here.

Loyalsock Township supervisor Marc Sortman says businesses pay lower taxes here. Also, The Golden Strip is easily visible off Interstate 180.

"It's easy for people traveling through," Sortman said.

Sortman tells Newswatch 16 the expansion isn't going to be stopping anytime soon. There are plans for even more development.

"We have probably five, six new commercial buildings being built in Loyalsock right now, and over the last three years I would say we probably have had 10, 15," said Sortman.

"It's great for me as a senior citizen because I can get to anything I want," said Marian Hutchinson.

Hutchinson lives within walking distance to The Golden Strip. She can't keep track of all of the new businesses going in.

"I remember all the older ones like Denny's, Arby's, McDonald's, Taco Bell and the Olive Garden."

The people we spoke with say they enjoy shopping in Loyalsock Township because it's close to Williamsport and it's a one-stop shop for all of their needs.
