WILKES-BARRE -- Wilkes-Barre is celebrating the area's history of organized workers today with its annual NEPA Labor Day Celebration.
No work, all play. That`s the message the celebration offers festival-goers at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre.
It's Edd Raineri first time at the festival.
"The good friends who are all around you at this, people you know and don`t get to often see, it`s like a little high school reunion!" he said.
The festival is put on by the NEPA Area Labor Federation, benefitting veterans. But there are things for everyone.
"I see there`s face painting, we have pink zebra, we have lots of food, raffle baskets I see!" said Audrey Gowan, a vendor at the festival.
There`s also this dunk tank. For a couple dollars, people can have a few tries dunking Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tony George.
"I hold my breath, that`s it, just hold your breath! The water`s warm, so it`s not bad at all!" he said, offering some tips.
We watched as one man tried and tried again until he dunked the mayor.
The festival is also for a good cause. Funds raised during the festival will support the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center`s Community Living Center.
"We take the money that we earned here and we go up there every single month and we play cards with them and buy them pizza and we give them our time because that`s what they really want is our time," said Patty Krushowski, an event organizer.
The festival ended at five but organizers expect to be back again next Labor Day.
