LERAYSVILLE -- In rural Bradford County, LeRaysville and Labor Day go hand in hand.
This small community has put on a weekend celebration for 70 years, filled with floats, and games, and even some softball.
"We have a ball tournament going on," said Bonnie Keeney of LeRaysville. "We have a huge chinese auction and we have the best dime pitch in all of Bradford County!"
The fire chief for the LeRaysville Pike volunteer fire company wears many hats this weekend, from emcee to organizer and even musical entertainment.
"We do a minstrel show and some chicken BBQs but this is what really supports our fire company,' said Chief John Keegan.
The population of LeRaysville is only about 300. But organizers expect to see about 7,000 make their way out to the Labor Day festival in order to help raise money for the local fire department.
"Most people don't realize when they look at LeRaysville, it's very small but our fire company covers 80 square miles," Keegan added. "Three townships plus the borough that we cover in our fire district. It takes a lot of money to make that thing operate."
