KIDDER TOWNSHIP -- For more than 40 years, Hickory Run State Park has been a vacation destination for Carolyn Greene of Allentown.
Getting out of the city and spending a few days outdoors is exactly what she needed this Labor Day Weekend.
"I just think the quietness, the smell of the smoke, you have no sense of time. It's just a relaxing thing to do," Greene said.
Relaxing at the park near White Haven is what a lot of families had in mind.
While most people like to go to the beach, people at Hickory Run State Park say this is the place to be this holiday weekend.
"I thought yesterday was going to be windy, cloudy with the chance of rain. It was beautiful," Greene said.
We found many people taking advantage of the nice weather.
The Lombargo family of Nescopeck has been camping here since Friday.
"We went hiking. We just stayed here by the fire and everything like that," Michael Lombargo said.
"I've been going on walks with some dogs. I've been going and playing with the stream down there," Samantha Lienert said.
Hiking at the state park is something a lot of families have enjoyed
Lisa Montolvo of Valley Forge says getting up to the mountains beats the beach.
"There's beautiful hikes. We all went hiking looking at waterfalls. It's just gorgeous here," Montolvo said.
