SCRANTON -- Courthouse Square in Scranton was filled with thousands of people as vendors filled the streets for La Festa Italiana.

More than 80 vendors are taking part in the Labor Day weekend celebration of Italian culture and cuisine.

Pat Davi has been bringing her family here for the past five years.

"I've never been to Italy. But from the pictures I've seen, this is something very similar to what I’ve seen in books. All I need is the big Basilica, and I'd be happy,” said Pat Davi from Laurel Run.

While the weather is on the minds of many across the east coast, organizers believe Tropical Storm Hermine could work in their favor.

"Ironically, because of the storms - we're getting a lot of people from Maryland and the coastlands and they're coming up and renting the hotels and staying the weekend. Might be raining in other places but here it's beautiful,” said Chris Dimattio, a member of the La Festa Italiana committee.

La Festa Italiana continues Sunday and Monday as part of the 41st annual celebration.
