Your natural gas bill will be going up.

UGI Penn Natural Gas announced its rates will increase on September 1, 2016.

The average customer’s bill will rise by 8.3 percent, going from about $76 per month to $82 per month.

“This increase is a result of the company under-recovering gas costs,” said Paul Szykman, UGI’s vice president of rates.

UGI said thanks to locally produced shale gas, rates have been able to stay stable in recent years, and even despite this increase, rates remain lower than in 2008.

UGI offers a budget billing program, which spreads bills out evenly over a 12-month period.
