SCRANTON — Folks hit the pavement in Scranton in memory of a former coach, educator, and leader who died of cancer last year.

The 5K run/walk was held Sunday morning on Orchard Street in memory of former Scranton City Council President Bob McGoff.

McGoff, a retired school teacher and basketball coach, served on city council for almost a decade until he died of cancer in November of last year.

The McGoff family was pleased with the turnout for Sunday’s inaugural race and plans to continue the tradition for years to come.

“This is awesome, actually,” said Ryan McGoff, grandson of Bob McGoff. “I did not expect this many people to come. I like how there’s people here who I don’t know because that shows he had an impact on a lot of people.”

“We are so happy from Coaches Versus Cancer to be a part of this great day in memory of someone who really put the community and the youth in our community ahead of himself, and did so much for the students and the city of Scranton,” said Coaches Versus Cancer’s Andrew Kettel.

All of the money raised will go toward Coaches Versus Cancer.
