BLOOMSBURG -- Thousands of professors, coaches, and other faculty members at 14 state-owned colleges are one step closer to striking.

That includes faculty here at Bloomsburg University.

According to union representatives, the faculty members have not had a raise or contract in over a year, and the state system of higher education is not negotiating fairly.

The union plans to vote in early September to decide whether or not to strike.

Some students worry it could affect their education.

"If they feel like they need more money and aren't getting enough, then that's the best thing to do, but I know it's going to hold back a lot of things," said Bloomsburg University student Jackie Liss.

In addition to Bloomsburg, the schools in our area include Mansfield, East Stroudsburg, and Lock Haven Universities.

The union has held strike authorization votes four other times since the state system's creation more than 30 years ago.
